Description

In 1993, to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the Queens Coronation, The Royal Mint released a Limited Issue Coronation £5 Five Pound Silver Proof Coin struck in solid .925 Sterling Silver.

The reverse has the St Edwards crown which forms the centerpiece and is surrounded by forty trumpets recalling the fanfare that welcomed the Queen as she entered Westminster Abbey on Coronation Day designed by Robert Elderton.

The obverse design portrays the Queen uncrowned as she appeared o her first coins in a portrait by Mary Gillick, encircled by mounted trumpeters, who, in turn, are separated by swords and scepters of the Royal Regalia.
These legal tender coins have been struck to proof quality using specially prepared dies and highly polished blanks.
