2007 Ireland Celtic Culture €10 Silver Proof

Description

The Central Bank of Ireland issued this limited edition collector silver coin to celebrate Ireland’s influence on European Celtic Culture. It was issued as part of the Europa Coin Programme, a joint European coin initiative.

The coin is designed by Irish artist Mary Gregoriy, who won a national design competition held by the Central Bank. The design depicts four metamorphic figures in a cruciform arrangement, highlighting Ireland’s strong Christian tradition.  The four figures meeting in the centre of the coin are in animated conversation.   Each figure holds in its hand an item that references a different aspect of how Ireland has influenced and inspired European Culture: literature, music, construction and new technology.
