Description
Limited edition silver proof five-coin Britannia sets issued by the UK’s national mint in 2013. These are the first Britannia sets produced in 999 silver. In 2013 the composition of silver proof and silver bullion Britannias was changed from 958 silver to purer 999 silver. The pure silver content remained the same across all denominations meaning that Britannias issued in 2013 and afterwards are slightly lighter than their 958 predecessors.
These sets are also the first to contain a silver 1/20oz Britannia, a 10p coin only introduced in this year. All five coins in these sets feature a one-year only reverse, designed by portrait sculptor Robert Hunt. His Britannia is seated, wearing her traditional plumed helmet and flowing robes, her trident ready in hand. On her knee sits an owl, a symbol of wisdom also associated with the Greek goddesses Athena. The obverses show Ian Rank-Broadley’s portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.
In total, the coins in this set offer 59.45 grams of fine silver. Only 3,087 silver Britannia sets were struck by The Royal Mint in this year and ours are offer in the original presentation box with a certificate of authenticity and an information booklet enclosed. Please note that the images on this webpage are stock photos. These 2013 Britannia sets are pre-owned. The coins inside may display toning which is a natural process that effects items made out of silver.
