Description
200 years ago, Great Britain’s First Municipal Fire Brigade was formed following the Great Fire of Edinburgh in 1824.
The war years proved to be the busiest for our Fire Brigades with fire fighters on the front line protecting communities as part of the Top Secret D-Day Mission – Operation Colour Scheme – and combating huge fires during The Blitz of World War II (where London endured air raids for 57 nights in a row).
World War II Fire Service 50p
Released as part of The History of the Fire Service 50p Collection, this Brilliant Uncirculated 50p depicts a World War II Fire Engine – a Dennis Chassis with an extendable ladder – in front of a background representing London during The Blitz.
