The first issue of the new James Bond™ Legacy Series was struck by the Perth Mint from one ounce of 99.99% pure silver and is dedicated to Sean Connery. The motive shows a black and white depiction of the actor in a classic Bond™ pose. The iconic 007 pistol logo and the logos of the 007 films released between 1962 and 1971 – “Dr. No,” “From Russia with Love,” “Goldfinger,” “Thunderball,” “You Only Live Twice” and “Diamonds are Forever” – are also included in the design. The reverse features the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, the denomination “1 DOLLAR,” the year of issue 2021, and the weight and fineness “1 Oz 9999 Ag.” Sean Connery was the first actor to portray the British secret agent James Bond™. The style, grace and extraordinary appeal of the relatively unknown actor contributed significantly to the success of the films and made the charismatic Connery the “best Bond ever” in the eyes of many fans. Connery was also an excellent actor beyond the 007 films – but the Scotsman was never able to completely shed his Bond™ image. Sir Sean Connery died on October 31, 2020, in the Bahamas at the age of 90.
