1964 USA Silver .900 Half Dollar John F Kennedy

The 1964 John F. Kennedy Half Dollar is a historic coin made from 90 percent pure silver, minted to honor the late president shortly after his tragic death in 1963.

Congress rushed this coin into production in early 1964 to remember President John F. Kennedy. Sculptor Gilroy Roberts designed the front portrait. Frank Gasparro designed the back seal.

This coin holds a special place in history because it is the only year the regular half dollar was struck with a high 90% silver composition for circulation. Coins from 1965 to 1970 only contained 40% silver, and later years contained no silver at all.
