Description
The Great Engravers Collection from The Royal Mint celebrates some of the most iconic coin designs in numismatic history. Issued in 1847 and 1853, it attracted the close personal interest of Queen Victoria and is one of the most beautiful coins that has ever been struck by The Royal Mint. These new interpretations form part of a trilogy of coin designs worked on by William Wyon RA.
The second coin to be released features the design that appears on the obverse of the Gothic Crown, which features an ornate portrait of Queen Victoria complete alongside lettering reminiscent of medieval calligraphy. Indicative of a wider artistic movement known as the Gothic Revival, the
renewed use of Gothic forms was highly fashionable in Victorian art and architecture.
