Description
he Queen’s Beasts are ten heraldic statues representing the genealogy of Queen Elizabeth II. This five pound coin is the sixth in The Royal Mint’s Queen’s Beast series and features The Yale of Beaufort.
The Yale passed into Royal Heritage through John, Duke of Bedford and was eventually gifted to the Beaufort family. Today, it can be seen guarding prominent buildings of education, including the roof of St. George’s Chapel and Windsor Castle.
Designed by Royal Mint engraver, Jody Clark, the reverse of this £5 coin features a depiction of a Yale in a regal position with large horns.
Also designed by Jody Clark, the obverse features the fifth portrait of Her Majesty the Queen.
