Description
This is a medieval silver penny of King Edward I struck at the London Mint between 1279 – 1307 AD
Obverse: + ЄDW R’ ΛИGL’ DИS hYB (Edward King of England Lord of Ireland) Legend around crowned facing portrait within inner beaded circle.
Reverse: CIVI TΛS LOИ DOИ (City of London) Long cross pattée, trefoil of pellets in angles, mint name around.
This coin was originally one of 8000+ coins found in 1877 Montrave Hoard. It was initially acquired from the British Museum and slabbed by NGC as proof of provenance and authenticity. Rare with such a good provenance!
