Description
Following the rising costs of silver, the U.S. Mint altered the composition of the Kennedy Half Dollar starting in 1965. The 1966 issue is a 40% silver clad coin, making it distinct from the 90% silver 1964 version but still highly sought after for its precious metal content.
No mint marks were used on 1966 circulation coins as part of a U.S. Mint effort to discourage coin hoarding during a national coin shortage. All 1966 business strikes were minted in Denver, despite lacking a “D” mark.
