Description
Isle of Man platinum proof tenth ounce Noble coin from 1984: one of just 5,000 issued. The obverse features the Arnold Machin portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. This was the second such definitive effigy used on Her Majesty’s coinage. The letters ‘PM’ appear beneath the bust and above the date – 1984 – for Pobjoy Mint.
Pobjoy produce an extensive range of commemorative coins as well as manufacturing currency for some British Overseas Territories. They have struck a range of coinage for the Isle of Man including Manx Noble bullion coins. Introduced in 1983, these coins were the first platinum investment coins. Like the South African Krugerrand they have no fixed face value, instead their legal tender value is tied to the price of the precious metal they contain.
The reverse of all Isle of Man Nobles, including 1/10th Nobles, features a viking ship in full sail with birds around. The legend flags the metal content and fineness. A fine knotted border surrounds the motif with the island’s coat of arms above. This collectible coin is made from 3.11 grams of 99.5% platinum and has been struck with a fine proof finish. It comes in its original red leatherette Pobjoy Mint box with a signed certificate of authenticity.
