Description

This £2 coin was issued in 1998 by the Isle of Man to celebrate the annual Rally – a famous car race on the island.

Rally Isle of Man – previously the Manx International Rally and formerly the Manx Trophy Rally – was first held in 1963 and became a well-known event in the British Open Rally Championship and the European Rally Championship.

The most successful drivers in the history of the rally include five-time winner Mark Higgins and the four-time winners Tony Pond and Russel Brookes.

Surrounded by springs the reverse of this coin shows three old-style race cars on a track. The obverse features Ian Rank-Broadley’s portrayal of Her Majesty the Queen.

Due to the low population of the Island in comparison to the rest of the UK, this coin will almost certainly have a very low mintage figure. Additionally, it is not legal tender in the UK and therefore you will not find it in your change.

Both of these characteristics combined make this coin particularly scarce and collectable.
