In 1999, to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the opening of the Perth Mint, the Perth Mint released a Limited Issue Perth Mint Centenary Bi-Metal $100 One Hundred Dollar Gold Sovereign Coin Certified Slabbed and Graded by NGC as MS 67.
It features a solid 22ct Gold centrepiece, with the same specifications as the original Perth Mint Sovereign of 7.98 grams and is surrounded by a 99.99% pure silver border weighing 5.02 grams
The Perth Mint Centenary Sovereign honours both the historic role of the sovereign and the importance of silver in the Mint’s heritage.
The Perth Mint has been Australia’s major gold and silver refiner since 1899, and 100 years on, it is still producing gold and silver coins for investors and collectors around the world.
The gold centrepiece of the Perth Mint Centenary Sovereign replicates the original reverse design of St George Slaying the Dragon, as featured on all Perth Mint Sovereigns.
The design is distinguished by the Perth Mint Centenary Mint Mark ‘P100’ positioned where the date would normally be shown on the reverse. The silver border incorporates the words ‘The Perth Mint Centenary Sovereign 1899 – 1999’.
On the obverse is the stunning portrait of the Queen by Ian Rank Broadley.
