Description
This proof gold two coin sovereign set, includes two coins, dated 2004 and 2005. In 1817 as part of a reform of coinage, the modern sovereign was introduced, with Benedetto Pistrucci’s classic portrayal of St. George slaying the dragon. The initials ‘BP’ can be found on the base under the hoof of the horse. The 2005 coin features a new portrayal of St. George and the Dragon, designed by Timothy Noad. The design concentrates on the drama between St. George, his horse and the dragon. St George’s shield was the focus, with the dragon having some freedom. The obverse of the coins features Ian Rank Broadley’s portrait of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The coins come in a plastic capsule, along with original Royal Mint boxes and certificate of authenticity.
