Issued in 2010 it features a unique design displaying the number 2 to represent the 3,2,1 countdown to London 2012, designed in harmony with an image of two runners racing to the finishing line. The coin also incorporates the Official London 2012 logo.

This is the third of four £5 coins from the Royal Mint in the lead up to the 2012 Olympic Games, with one coin released every year. Issued in 2011 it features a unique design displaying the number 1 to represent the 3,2,1 countdown to London 2012, designed in harmony with an image of a cyclist. The coin also incorporates the Official London 2012 logo.

2012;

The 2012 Countdown £5 Five Pound Coin designed by Claire Aldridge depicts the passage of time until Games Times with the ticking clock hand and also features a border inspired by the framework of the Olympic Stadium.
However, in this case the coin design portrays the culmination of the athlete’s dedication to compete in London 2012 with three figures standing on the winner’s podium to emphasis the ultimate reward of sporting success.
