In 2014 for the first time in history, to celebrate the Lunar Year of the Horse, the Royal Mint released a Limited Issue British Lunar Horse £2 Two Pound Silver Proof Coin struck in solid fine .999 Silver weighing one ounce of fine pure Silver.
The reverse designed by Wuon-Gean Ho depicts a powerful horse paired with the famous Uffington Horse, an ancient white horse carved into the chalk hills of Oxfordshire, at its feet.
The obverse has Ian Rank Broadley’s portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
These legal tender coins have been struck to proof quality using specially prepared dies and highly polished blanks.
