In 1917, Under George V’s reign, the Royal Family adopted the name Windsor, rather than the German name of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha which had come to them in 1840, with the marriage of Queen Victoria to Prince Albert.
Over the 100 years since the name was adopted, there have been four monarchs to use the Windsor name; George V, Edward VIII, George VI and Elizabeth II.
On Maundy Thursday 2017, the Queen handed out Maundy money with one of the 2017 House of Windsor £5 coins.
