Description
On 1 April 2018 the Royal Air Force marks its 100th Anniversary.
To celebrate the occasion, The Royal Mint has chosen to release a new £2 coin that features a version of the original RAF badge.
The RAF badge has varied very little over the last 100 years and is a symbol of the RAF’s continued strength and resilience.
This one is “extra-special” because it is The Royal Mint’s flagship Silver Piedfort issue – they are double the normal thickness of a standard coin. It is a tradition that dates back centuries when such Piedfort pieces were struck exclusively for Royalty and dignitaries.
Today Piedfort coins are still recognised as The Royal Mint’s most prestigious silver releases with a sell-out history to match. That’s because you don’t just own twice the silver but you also own a coin with LESS THAN HALF the edition limit of the standard Silver Proof Coin.
Twice the Silver. Less than HALF the edition.
Only 3,000 available worldwide and struck from 925/1000 Sterling Silver with fine gold plate to a pristine Proof Finish, the reverse features Rhys Morgan’s design of the RAF’s badge – his first UK coin design.
Each coin comes in its own Official Royal Mint Presentation Case and with a Certificate of Authenticity.
