Description

A Remarkable Reign: 65 Years of Duty and Devotion

A royal year of celebration in 2018 continues with a very important anniversary. Having become our longest reigning monarch in 2015 and celebrating her 90th birthday in 2016, the remarkable reign of Her Majesty The Queen presents another historic milestone as we mark the 65th anniversary of her coronation.

Queen Elizabeth II is the first British monarch to reach such a milestone, and the occasion demands a fitting celebration. Two designs and a limited edition range of coins have been created especially for the occasion, available in versions from a Brilliant Uncirculated £5 coin to a gold Proof kilo coin.

Honouring 65 Years of Devotion and Duty

In 1953 the streets of Britain came alive in celebration as a young princess was crowned at a grand ceremony at Westminster Abbey. Now, on the sapphire anniversary of Her Majesty The Queen’s coronation, we bring together a set of historic and newly struck coins spanning 65 years, capturing a remarkable reign of devotion and duty.

Featuring the first portrait of the new queen, the circulating coins from 1953 would have graced pockets and purses up and down the country and introduced Queen Elizabeth II to daily life in Britain. The shilling featured English and Scottish Coats of Arms on their reverse as a symbol of the monarch’s commitment to representing all parts of the United Kingdom – a promise that is still present today and can be seen on the 2018 £1 coin which features all four national emblems.

The circulating coins in this set are joined by the 1953 coronation crown and a new commemorative Sapphire Coronation £5 coin, designed by Royal Mint graphic designer Stephen Taylor and inspired by the Coats of Arms on Westminster Bridge. Containing 19 coins in total, this set is a unique way to pay tribute to the longest reigning monarch’s extraordinary achievements and share them with generations to come.
