Description
The 2019 gold Proof Sovereign coin from The Royal Mint. With the classic George & Dragon design, and the 5th portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Jody Clark.
This coin weighs the same as a regular (or bullion) Sovereign, at 7.98 grams and 22-carat gold (91.67% fineness). This proof has been struck using specially selected blanks and highly polished dies. During striking, the coinage dies exert enormous pressure on the coin blank, with at least two separate blows (or strikes), ensuring that the impression has extra clarity.
This 2019 Proof Sovereign is bound in a good-looking case and comes complete with its own booklet/Certificate of Authenticity.
- The Modern Sovereign: The modern sovereign was introduced in 1817 and has been issued most years since. The coins continue to be highly sought after by investors and collectors alike.
- Proof Coins:Â These proof coins are struck to a much higher standard than bullion coins. The blanks are struck up to 6 times each in order to give the coins the very best finish.
- Obverse:Â The obverse of the coins feature the Jody Clark fifth coinage effigy of Queen Elizabeth II.
- Reverse: The reverse shows the iconic St. George and the Dragon by Benedetto Pistrucci. This design has been used since 1817 on the reverse of most dates of Sovereigns, with a few exceptions. The Royal Mint have digitally remastered them using the original tooling.
