The Iconic ‘Beefeaters’ – the Royal Protectors of the Tower of London
The Tower of London is one of Britain’s oldest and most famous royal buildings, drawing visitors from all around the world each day. The walls of the fortress may be steeped in history but it’s safe to say that many come to catch sight of, or maybe take a picture with, the famous Yeoman Warders in their iconic red uniforms.
These distinctive guards appear on the third coin in The Royal Mint’s series exploring the Tower of London. The Yeoman Gaoler takes pride of place on the coin, instantly recognisable in his Tudor bonnet with ceremonial axe. Struck to Brilliant Uncirculated standard – a finer finish than circulating coins – this coin is presented in a fold-out wallet in which you’ll be able to explore the fascinating story of the Yeoman Warders.
