Using an incredible imagination and innovative storytelling techniques, H.G. Wells was able to create some of the most enduring novels of his generation. His penchant for creativity, along with his scientific background, allowed him to shatter the boundaries of fiction in the late 1800s and create a new breed of novel, pioneering the genre that would ultimately become known as science fiction (sci-fi). Today, Wells is renowned all over the world as ‘The Father of Science Fiction’. His timeless novels provided a window to the future and many of his stories and characters have become hallmarks of sci-fi to this day. In the year of the 75th anniversary of his passing, The Royal Mint is proud to celebrate this avant-garde author with a commemorative UK £2 coin in his honour.
