Nicknamed ‘The Father of Television’, John Logie Baird was undoubtedly one of the most important inventors of the twentieth century. His exploration into the world of moving imagery was truly groundbreaking and altered the landscape for communication and entertainment forever.

In 2021, we mark the 75th anniversary of his passing by releasing a UK 50p coin honouring this pioneer of television as part of our Innovation in Science series. The reverse design of this numismatic tribute to Baird was created by the design agency Osborne Ross. The design encapsulates the essence of ‘The Father of Television’ through a wonderful image that celebrates both his life and his greatest invention.
