Description
Ever since Princess Elizabeth inherited the throne in 1952, the nation has watched her grow from a young queen to the much-loved monarch that she is today. Now, as Her Majesty The Queen once again reaches another record-breaking milestone, becoming the first British monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, The Royal Mint is paying tribute to 70 years of duty and service.
For this historic occasion, both sides of this particular coin feature new designs by the experienced coinage artist John Bergdahl. For the obverse, the sculptor has created a commemorative portrait of The Queen, which is reminiscent of previous jubilee designs featuring Her Majesty on horseback. For the reverse, he looked to the past again, making use of the royal mantle as a surround, as used on the coinage of William IV.
