Description
Britain established its first American colonies in the early 1600s and these grew to include over 20 colonies and provinces by 1763. Proposed taxes from the British Parliament in London sparked discontentment amongst certain factions of the colonists, who began to take up arms.
The Battles of Lexington and Concord took place on 19 April 1775 and although they were relatively small skirmishes between the British and the Massachusetts militia, they were historically monumental. Initiating the beginning of the American Revolutionary War, they led to the founding of the United States of America.
