Description

Britain established its first American colonies in the early 1600s and these grew to include over 20 colonies and provinces by 1763. Proposed taxes from the British Parliament in London sparked discontentment amongst certain factions of the colonists, who began to take up arms.
The Battles of Lexington and Concord took place on 19 April 1775 and although they were relatively small skirmishes between the British and the Massachusetts militia, they were historically monumental. Initiating the beginning of the American Revolutionary War, they led to the founding of the United States of America.
Struck to mark the 250th anniversary of the Battles of Lexington and Concord, this UK coin features a reverse design by coin designer and engraver Michael Gaudioso

  • The first time British coinage has marked the history of the American Revolutionary War
  • Michael Gaudioso’s intricate reverse design perfectly captures the pivotal events of 19 April 1775
  • The reverse features the inscription ‘THE SHOT HEARD ROUND THE WORLD’, a phrase now synonymous with the American Revolutionary War
  • Representing the best of British craftsmanship, each coin is finished to The Royal Mint’s finest Proof standard
  • Accompanied by bespoke packaging that explores the significance and historical context of the Battles of Lexington and Concord
