A Remarkable Reign: 65 Years of Duty and Devotion
A royal year of celebration in 2018 continues with a very important anniversary. Having become our longest reigning monarch in 2015 and celebrating her 90th birthday in 2016, the remarkable reign of Her Majesty The Queen presents another historic milestone as we mark the 65th anniversary of her coronation.
Queen Elizabeth II is the first British monarch to reach such a milestone, and the occasion demands a fitting celebration. Two designs and a limited edition range of coins have been created especially for the occasion, available in versions from a Brilliant Uncirculated £5 coin to a gold Proof kilo coin.
Celebrate the Latest Chapter in a Remarkable Story
Through the years, Her Majesty The Queen has given the nation so many special moments and milestones to celebrate. The Royal Mint is proud to have been there for every anniversary and so many other happy occasions for the growing Royal Family. Now, we pay tribute to a remarkable woman and her remarkable reign with a £5 coin – a traditional ‘crown’ – to mark this latest achievement. Struck in the year of the sapphire anniversary of The Queen’s coronation and year-dated, it is a lasting reminder of this rare moment in British and royal history.
The coin features an exclusive design created by Stephen Taylor, one of our own graphic designers. Stephen also created a reverse design for the Longest Reigning Monarch collection in 2015 and for this occasion he has turned to heraldry for his inspiration. Every detail of his design is finished to Brilliant Uncirculated standard, a finer finish than the coins we use every day. Each coin is presented in a display folder, where you can read the story of the celebrations 65 years ago and find out more about the specially created design.
