The 2020 proof sovereign comes in a wooden presentation box with a certificate of authenticity.
The full sovereign has a much lower mintage than in previous years. There will be 7,995 of the coins issued in their individual presentation boxes, with further coins as part of sets. The 2020 full sovereign total mintage figure is just 9,905 – the lowest mintage since the 2016 proof sovereign.
- The Modern Sovereign: The modern sovereign was introduced in 1817 and has been issued most years since. The coins continue to be highly sought after by investors and collectors alike.
- Proof Coins:Â These proof coins are struck to a much higher standard than bullion coins. The blanks are struck up to 6 times each in order to give the coins the very best finish.
- Obverse:Â The obverse of the coins feature the Jody Clark fifth coinage effigy of Queen Elizabeth II.
- Reverse: The reverse shows the iconic St. George and the Dragon by Benedetto Pistrucci. This design has been used since 1817 on the reverse of most dates of Sovereigns, with a few exceptions. The Royal Mint have digitally remastered them using the original tooling.
- Privy Mark: To the left of the date you can find a royal cypher mint mark. This commemorates the 200th year since the death of King George III.
