Description
The third coin in the incredibly popular Tower of London £5 Collection has been released, celebrating The Royal Mint which was housed within the walls of the Tower for over 500 years!
When all four coins issued for 2020 come together, they will be unified by the Norman arched window design, reminiscent of the Tower itself.
Excitingly, each coin will also feature an exclusive Mint Mark seen only on Tower of London coins.
The Royal Mint
From 1272 until 1810, the Tower of London was home to The Royal Mint.
Coins of the realm were produced in a dedicated area in the outer ward, established by Edward I, and known as ‘Mint Street’, until production moved to a new site at Tower Hill and eventually on to its present location in Wales.
This history of The Royal Mint at the Tower of London has been brought to life on this UK coin, designed by Tim Noad.
What’s more, The Royal Mint £5 also features the exclusive Tower of London Mint Mark – only adding to the collectability of this brand new issue!
