Description
Since Her Majesty The Queen came to the throne in 1952, the nation has taken this dutiful monarch to their hearts, sharing the difficult times and celebrating many happy occasions. The Royal Mint has struck every official United Kingdom coin of The Queen’s reign and now, as Her Majesty becomes the first British monarch to reach a Platinum Jubilee, we pay tribute to her remarkable and incomparable reign with a UK 50p coin.
This is the first time we have celebrated a royal event on a 50p coin and for this historic occasion, both sides of the coin feature new designs. The experienced coinage artist John Bergdahl has created a commemorative jubilee portrait of The Queen for the obverse, which is reminiscent of previous jubilee designs as it features Her Majesty on horseback. Createdby the design agency Osborne Ross, the reverse shows the number 70 in a strong, graphic image and includes the dates
1952 and 2022 beneath The Queen’s official insignia.
