Description
With many accounts and origins, the courageous Maid Marian, co-leader of the Merry Men with Robin Hood, appears on the second coin in a three-part collection from The Royal Mint inspired by British myths and legends. A coin honouring the hero Robin Hood preceded this release and a coin honouring Little John, the lieutenant of the Merry Men, will follow.
Since the sixteenth century, the character of Maid Marian has become embedded in popular culture, through the stories of Robin Hood and his Merry Men. For the reverse of this UK coin, Jody Clark’s depiction of Maid Marian shows her standing amongst the greenery of Sherwood Forest with a bow and a quiver of arrows on her back, poised for action. The obverse of the coin features the official coinage portrait of His Majesty King Charles III, designed by Martin Jennings.
