Description
When her Majesty the Queen was crowned in 1953, the entrance to Westminster Abbey was guarded by ten fantastical creatures – The Queen’s Beasts.
These ten beasts are said to represent the genealogy of Queen Elizabeth II.
This £5 coin is the eighth in The Royal Mint’s Queen’s Beasts Coin Series and features the White Horse of Hanover.
Designed by acclaimed Royal Mint engraver, Jody Clark, the reverse of this coin features a depiction of the White Horse of Hanover.
With roots in medieval times, the emblem of the white horse became part of Her Majesty’s ancestral story when George I was crowned.
