As one of the oldest working mints in the world, The Royal Mint, UK have produced coins for a plethora of regal dynasties throughout its 1,100-year history, including some of the most legendary monarchs to wear the crown. The British Monarchs Collection uniquely celebrates these iconic kings and queens by providing a numismatic snapshot of their reign through coin designs of yesteryear.
Utilising genuine historical samples coupled with state-of-the-art technology and numismatic processes, their master craftspeople have faithfully recreated these classic designs just as they would have appeared during each monarch’s respective reign.
This innovative, five-year series will feature 21 monarchs in total, featuring iconic kings and queens from four royal houses: Tudor, Stuart, Hanoverian, and Windsor, formerly known as Saxe-Coburg-Gotha. Each year will see the launch of several new coins, released sequentially in January, March, June, and September*.
Whilst the designs remain true to the originals, the coins in this new collection are finished to Proof standard, which provides a clearly defined finish that accentuates the details and enhances the overall aesthetic of each one.
08 George II
The latest release in the collection celebrates George II. The second Hanoverian king acceded to the throne on the death of his father in 1727. His reign oversaw a significant period in British history, including the establishment of the parliamentary system we know today. George II was the last British monarch to ride into battle alongside his troops, and was Britain’s longest-living monarch at the time of his death.

07 Charles II
The latest release in the collection honours Charles II, the ‘Merry Monarch’ who represented the restoration of the monarchy and an end to the oppressive Puritan era. A patron of the arts with a keen interest in science, Charles II reigned during some of Britain’s most significant events, including an outbreak of the Bubonic Plague and the Great Fire
of London.

06 Charles I
The British Monarchs Collection takes an in-depth look at several legendary monarchs to have graced the throne in Britain. Accompanied by a booklet detailing the life of the monarch it commemorates, each coin in the collection features a remastering of an original portrait that would
have appeared on coinage during the time of each respective monarch’s reign. The sixth coin in the collection pays tribute to the second king from the House of Stuart, Charles I.

05 Henry VIII
The fifth release in the collection is dedicated to Henry VIII, one of the most famous figures in British history, known around the world for his six wives and luxurious lifestyle. The latest coin in the collection features a remastered portrait of Henry VIII on the reverse, meticulously reproduced by The Royal Mint’s Product Design team using the finest examples of coins struck during the monarch’s reign. Capturing the king’s fearless and uncompromising character, the portrait depicts Henry VIII facing forward, which is quite unusual stance for a coinage portrait. It is the first coin in the collection to feature the official coinage portrait of His Majesty King Charles III on the obverse.

04 Edward VII
As the firstborn son of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, Edward VII was always destined to be king. By the time he inherited the throne at the age of 59, he was the longest-serving heir apparent in British history, and a well-travelled and popular public figure. Edward VII’s relatively short reign saw the modernisation of the military and navy, and disputes settled with France, both of which proved vital when war broke out years later; he was also the last British monarch to have a period of history named after them.
